Modern Foreign Languages

At SS John and Monica Catholic Primary School, French is our chosen Modern Foreign Language and is taught throughout Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6).

Our aim is to develop a love of language learning and give children the confidence to communicate in another language. Through engaging and interactive lessons, pupils develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, alongside an understanding of French phonics, vocabulary and grammar.

Children enjoy learning through conversation, songs, games, stories and a range of practical activities. They also explore aspects of French culture and traditions, helping them to appreciate similarities and differences between their own lives and those of others.

Our French curriculum is progressive, allowing children to build upon their knowledge and skills each year. By the end of Year 6, we want our pupils to be confident, enthusiastic language learners, equipped with strong foundations for continuing their language learning at secondary school.
